Year 1992. New Interfaces.

That is very similar to what I would expect from computer interface in 5 to 10 years. It might be similar to what happened in PARC with invention of mouse and GUI. I wonder if the story will happen again?

Some Speculations on Phones Upcoming This Summer

First of all it seems like Microsoft decided to stop doing crappy OS for crappy phones and will try to catch up with Apple by doing Pink. Coincidence is obvious Windows Seven this summer and Windows Mobile Seven on Pink. Mobile and Desktop platforms from Microsoft were never in sync so perfectly well. I hope that OEMs will not stuck with Windows Mobile 6.5 while Microsoft rides the wave of success.

Updated iPhone is on its way. New camera, new download speeds, improved performance and 3.0 with ATT driven MMS. Palm Pre is still coming from Sprint. Android is picking up the speed with 1.5 release. And it seems like new phone will be in summer as well.

So it is going to be a hot summer with totaly new market of mobile phones. I really expect that all current phone manufacturerer will need to re-think their approaches to phone production.

Some thoughts on iPhone 3.0 presentation.

Great presentation and great features. It is definitely gonna be a new stepstone for app developers. Still, I am almost sure that everyone can feel an absence of Steven’s approach to presentation.

I am really concerned about MMS. People, you should understand that nature of the MMS equals to e-mail. It is almost the same technology. The only difference is in the money you pay. Carriers want to charge you for every single message you send. However, they can’t track the number of e-mails, but MMS is a different story. This technology must die. I don’t understand the reason Apple has decided to implement it. Is it a lack of Steven’s vision or what?

Objective-C Introduction

I am very disappointed with the book mentioned in the previous post, for this reason let me share a couple of links that I find way more useful on the same subject:

Object-Oriented Programming with Objective-C

The Objective-C 2.0 Programming Language

Steven Jobs needs Dr. House

Apple has posted an open letter from Steven Jobs on his health. Best wishes and good health to you Mr. Jobs.

Become an Xcoder – Review

Don’t waste your time on this book, unless you are really, really, really, really new to the programming. The book doesn’t cover much of Objective C, but mostly concentrates on programming basics. Here is the extract from the chapter on pointers:

This chapter contains advanced concepts and deals with underlying C language concepts that beginners may ?nd intimidating. If you don’t understand it all now, don’t worry. Thankfully, in general – although understanding how pointers work is useful – it is not essential to start programming in Objective-C.

Intimidating???

If you’ve already got the book, read chapters 14 and 15 only!

Alex Biahun – stache fundraising efforts

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas. In this holiday season,I was hoping you could find it in your heart to donate to a wonderful charity that I am involved in.  If you haven’t already heard, I have recently been sporting akiller mustache for the sake of the sick kidsat Children’s Hospital in Washington DC.Attached you can find my recent picture.

Of course, facing the world with a fledgling mustache can be every bit as physically and emotionally taxing as training for a marathon or any other pledge-sponsored fundraiser, so I hope you will consider“sponsoring” my growing effort. All money will go directly to Children’s hospital so that they can better serve the children in their care. Any amount is appreciated and every dollar will make a difference.

So….If you’d like to support me and Children’s Hospital please click on the link to make a donation. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Lastly, if you’re looking for something fun to do next Thursday, December 11thjoin us at RFD in Chinatown for the Stache Bash where all the growers will don costumes and show offtheir staches. Hope to see you there and thanks again!

Yours Stachingly,

P.S. Please feel free to forward this to ANYONE who may be interested in donating and THANK YOU all for your support.

Taking iPhone Screenshots

I have just discovered that you can take iPhone screenshots by pressing Power and Home button at the same time.

Virgin America Experience

Finally! I had a chance to try this airline. It is the best so far in the US. Things I liked:

1. It is clean and looks new.

2. Seats are comfortable. You can even fall asleep.

3. The video about airplane safety features is hilarious. I watched it from the beginning to the very end. And will probably watch it again.

4. Entertainment system is really entertaining. You can kill 30 minutes just studying it.

5. Live satellite TV from Dish. No stupid records like United does.

5. Crew is awesome. I guess Virgin said no to old ugly women in shitty suits.

6. Food ordering on the screen is just fantastic. You can even select sugar, lemon, cream or half and half for your tea.

Things I didn’t like:

1. $7 per movie!

2. Touch screen is not perfect. It is definitely not the iPhone experience.

3. The system restarted twice during the flight. I haven’t even finished a movie.

3. No Internet. But it is coming.

P.S. I think Americans have “on-board peeing” fetish. It is the only nation that enjoys lavatories. Moreover, I even think, that they save urine intentionally, just to pee on board. As soon as “fasten the seatbelts” sign goes off, every second man stands up to wait in the line. This time, one of the lavatories was not functioning, so the average number of people in the toilet line during the flight was 8 ± 3 people. I haven’t ever seen anything like this, anywhere in the world. The same guy stood 6 times in the toilet line during the flight! The other guy spent 18 minutes in the lavatory! What the hell is wrong with you people?
